The energy division of the IDB actively participated in the III Ministerial Meeting of the Energy and Climate Alliance of the Americas (ECPA) that was held in Viña del Mar on September 7 and 8 and which contributed to take certain steps regarding the energy transition in the region. Population is growing, economies are expanding and demand for energy services is increasing, which is also expected to be uninterrupted and sustainable. It is estimated that the region will have to invest more than two trillion dollars in energy infrastructure over the next two decades. This challenge requires coordinated actions, and this is understood by the Energy and Climate Alliance of the Americas ( ECPA ), which met this week in Viña del Mar.

During the meeting, the countries of the Americas were the protagonists who set the course that The region must engage in collaborative work both between countries and between the public C Level Executive List and private sectors. The Energy and Climate Alliance of the Americas (ECPA) is a hemispheric cooperation platform emanating from the V Summit of the Americas held in Trinidad and Tobago in April 2009. During the II Ministerial Meeting held in Mérida in 2015, the ministers agreed provide ECPA with a management structure and gave the mandate to develop a hemispheric Action Plan on energy and climate. This year, the III Ministerial Meeting to be held in Viña del Mar.



Chile, was the occasion to carry out the exchange around the pillars of ECPA, promote dialogue between countries, as well as between the public and private sectors, and promote synergies at the regional level in order to advance towards the energy transition in the Americas, focused on the development of sustainable, more efficient, innovative and accessible energies. Access to energy is a source of social services thanks to the availability of electricity in health and education centers; of higher levels of security in public spaces thanks to public lighting and the reduction of violence; and a greater degree of autonomy fostered by access to information through radio and television.
